My brief take on: Shashi Tharoor's The Ideas of India

My brief take on: Shashi Tharoor's The Ideas of India
----------------------

Dont we know Nehru opposed Indira's marriage? Do not paint them in such magnificent colour as these. Caste is store of what communities have gathered to form over thousands of years; a store of values and experiences of closely knit communities. With that come evils as well. Why cant we be secular about castes like we try to be about religions?

Castes are a solution to the problem of social organisation, heart of India's communal living and collectivism. It is very "Urban" of you when you say "There is social oppression and caste tyranny, particularly in rural India... ". It has become passion to disparage "rural india" - unconscious inheriters of that what holds Indis together-for all ills. Nehru and his fans like you have a "cut the leg if it is sore" approach to caste which you guys need to "figureout", I guess.
